Canon 1DXMK2 – Wildlife Photography Test – Matt Hardy Photography

I haven’t done an in-depth camera review before so here goes.

I am always looking at new equipment and developing my skills. People argue it isn’t worth spending alot of money on the latest camera gear but I do not agree with that. I look at it as an investment and having professional camera equipment helps separate myself from others. I also prefer to achieve better results in camera and that requires less post processing. As a photographer I demand the very best from my images.

So what did I test today? Well here it is!

The Canon 1DXmk2

Canon’s latest and most powerful camera on the market, hosting a huge range of features  including a 4K and lightening-fast AF acquisition when shooting stills at up to 16fps. All of this is made possible by the camera’s dual DIGIC 6 processors, full-frame 20.2-megapixel CMOS sensor with Dual Pixel CMOS AF, extended ISO range of up to 409,600 and dual card slots (CF and CFast). The 1D X Mk II also has a 3.2″, 1,620K-dot LCD touchscreen, Full HD 1080p movie recording, a weather-resistant magnesium-alloy body, built-in GPS….. yeh it certainly backs a punch!!

I am certainly in love and more impressed, I made the camera work hard for the shots and was blown away by the results. Such sharp and detailed images whilst clean and vibrant. Here are a few shots from the 1dxmk2 below.

The images were taken on a dull and dark day mostly in wooded areas except for the first meadow image. The camera performed beyond my expectations with lighting fast auto focus, incredible detail and clean images!

To summarise,

The size and weight felt fantastic, lots of accessible controls and easy to shoot functions. They are all encased in a rugged yet sleek and superb looking weather-resistant magnesium-alloy body for shooting in all conditions. I loved the clunk of the shutter – it sounds like a heavy hitter however wedding shooters note – is has a silent shutter mode ;).

This camera is a must for people who demand the very best from any shooting situation!

A HUGE thank you to Jayne Bond who let me trial the camera for the afternoon. Here is a link to her website where you can see some incredible wildlife photography – Jayne bond photography

More to come very soon indeed with this camera,

A Day Out In Dorset With Explore Dorset

Ahh the festive break has arrived, Its  time to put the feet up and crack out the wine and festive treats!

Nope not for me, I made use of having a few extra days by heading to one of my favorite Dorset locations the famous Durdle Door.

I joined up with Ben & Joanna from Explore Dorset which is a very popular Instagram page. We were also joined by Lewis who was visiting from America, but grew up in the UK. All set and ready to go we headed off  and ventured down to the door.

A 90 second exposure using a Lee filter Big stopper and Hard Grad 0.9 Shot on my Canon 5ds

This is by far one of my favorite places to shoot in Dorset, I really do not think there is anywhere else in the wold with a view like this. I have photographed it many times and always enjoy capturing different images from here.

It is also one of the most physical landscapes to shoot, lots of walking up and down hills for different composition and images. However the view from the top of Bats head simply breathtaking looking back on the Jurassic coast.

The steep climb to the top of bats head is certainly worth it for the view of the Jurassic Coastline.

As always my images are for sale as either photographic prints, canvases or for editorial use. Please just get in contact with your requirements on Contact@matthardyphotography.co.uk

Supermoon Rise In Bournemouth 2016

So last night I witnessed one of the most spectacular moon rises in my photographic career to date,

I ventured out to a spot in Bournemouth using a phone app to align and find the best position. I met up with my good friend at Kevin who is a dedicated moon and astro photographer, he was leading a small class of photographers and giving them tuition on how to get the best possible super moon image.

So we waited, all set and ready to go I was not going to miss this fantastic opportunity and went for a 2 camera set up.

To my luck as it rose as a fisherman came into shot and made for the perfect foreground. I knew as soon as I pressed the shutter I was on to a winning shot. I was filled with excitement and couldnt wait to see this image on the big screen.

It was done, the moon ventured into the clouds and I packed up and headed home. I couldn’t wait to edit and upload this for the world to see.

supermoon

Pleased to say this image went viral and was shared all over the world. my social media platforms went crazy and I was pleased to see all the positive comments and feedback.

It was also share on THE LAD BIBLE which has over 17 million fans of the page… yeh chuffed with that!

Here is another image showing Bournemouth Pier as the moon rose.

Christchurch Wedding – Joss & Steph’s Wedding At The Kings Hotel

Joss and Steph booked me well over a year ago and I was delighted they had done so. We have been friends since the early school days and I was over the moon to heae that they were getting married. Saturday 3rd of September and it was the big day. I headed over to Swanage and met with the lads. Rachel my second shooter was already with the girls. After a good catchup we set of for the Kings Hotel in Christchurch. The weather was set for overcast with some possible showers so fingers were well and truly crossed.

We arrived in Christchurch and it was pretty much go time. The bride was already on here way  over. They had decided to get married in the gorgeous little pavilion opposite the hotel surrounded by trees its a lovely place to tie the knott. Steph arrived and this was Joss was stood eagerly waiting to see his gorgeous bride arrive.

No hymns, however a lovely sing along of Jack Johnson’s better together’ started a gorgeous ceremony. It wasn’t long before the I do’s and of course that first kiss as Mr and Mrs Cook, there was also a high five at the alter which the friends and family’s loved!

After the ceremoeny we headed straigh outside and made the most of the dry weather for the group shots and portraits in the local area. I am forever checking my weather app and watch to see how we were doing for time and of course bad weather. We finished up and headed back inside for celebrations and speeches just as the heavens opened and it tipped it down.

Thank you to all who attended and made it an incredible wedding,

Matt,

Corfe Castle Wedding – Jack & Hannah Get Married

Another Corfe Castle wedding and this time it was the turn of an old school friend Hannah.

We hadn’t seen each other since school so I was pleased that she had asked me to photograph her special day.

Since school Hannah had moved to London where she met Jack. They decided to get married back in Hannah’s home county of Dorset.

Dorset’s countryside makes a beautiful wedding day with some incredible landscapes.  Some of the guest who travelled from afar were most impressed.

It was clear blue skies and after a gorgeous ceremony we headed over to Kingston Courtyard for drinks and celebrations.
